Upgrading my camera: Canon or Nikon ?

Hello dear Friends, I am wondering to upgrade my current camera (Nikon Coolpix S220) to a reflex box camera. And after my first own deductions I still hesitate between Canon and Nikon.
I know you will wonder why I am asking this kind of question. Simple, I did not use professional material since 2000 !!! A film SLR camera OLYMPUS (yes, yes...), with 3 objectives, 3 rings macro, stand, all necessary lighting, filters galore, etc. and suddenly I did not follow the evolution of progress since those early days. So I must admit than to invest in new "professional" material, I really need your advice !
